Premium Spinning Quality Jacob Fleece Fresh off the sheep. Jacob sheep wool is known for it's strength, versatility, open-nature, holding it's shape, softness and ability to withstand daily wear and tear. Although described as a medium wool we've found that it's still next-to-skin-soft. This fiber is sourced from our Jacob sheep, a rare heritage breed. Average micron range for most Jacob wool is around 24-36 microns. Turn your winter into project time! Well-skirted warm, sheepish, and lovely fiber ready to be washed and fully processed by you- Just the way you like it! Know the animals your materials come from along with the staple length, weight, and the level of processing you'll need to do! Pictured is a 2025 Lamb fleece from our very own Belle Ridge Kaien!

  • Place raw fiber into a mesh garment/sock wash bag. Soak in Warm to slightly hot water with a wool wash (preferably biodegradable), for 20-30 minutes be very careful not to agitate (repeat this step as needed). Rinse until water runs clear. Then Lay flat to dry, spreading out fiber as much as possible, we've found that using a sweater or herb-drying rack for this step really helps to speed this process along. Gently fluff the wool by hand as the fibers dry for a more uniform finished effect. Using a fan to aid in drying may be beneficial. After the initial cleaning process wash sparingly for increased longevity.

  • If dying this fiber mordanting with a protein fiber compatible mordant like potassium aluminum sulfate with cream of tartar will help improve color-fastness, and the ability of the fiber to absorb the dye.
