All of the animals in the Sterling Fibers flock are raised on lush pasture and the clear mountain streams of the top of the Colorado watershed. Our animals are considered as individuals within our herd. The cold, sunny winters of the Rocky Mountains result in a higher quantity of luxuriously delicious fiber, and our animals turn green grass into lovely fleece all summer long. Zero Waste
At Sterling fibers we believe that there is no such thing as waste or useless fiber. Here we believe that all fiber is good fiber though some fibers are better for certain applications than others. We attempt to use all the parts of the fleece and offer a variety of products in order to do so. Fiber that is too course for a next-to-skin garment is perfect for a jacket, rug, felt, or other outer-wear item. Even the parts that are too dirty or short to be processed can make a nutrient-rich and eco-friendly fertilizer for your garden.
Sustainable
Our animals are raised on lush pasture for their entire lives, annually in spring time their fiber is carefully collected for processing while our animals continue to enjoy the green spring grass. A spring time collection ensures that our animals stay warm durning the winter and cool during the hot summer months. Not only is it needed for our animals health it's a lovely thing to be able to use the wonderful fiber they produce to make beautiful things for you to enjoy. We also utilize rotational grazing to keep the land as happy and healthy as our animals
Reusable
Natural fibers are one of the most versatile and reusable materials on earth when properly cared and well made garment can last nearly 80 years mostly unchanged. The same sweater can theoretically also be deconstructed and re-made about 5 times.
